How to be Close to God


How can we discover a close relationship with the God of the universe? God desires to talk with us daily if we are open to listening. Discover His thoughts for you in His Word with these Scriptures. and we encourage you to speak them out loud to grasp the depth of love He has for you!


(S) “The Lord your God has arrived to live among you. … He will rejoice over you with great gladness; he will love you and not accuse you.” Is that a joyous choir I hear? No, it is the Lord himself exulting over you in happy song.”

Zephaniah 3:17 TLB

(P) Thank you Father for being present in ___’s life. You rejoice over ___ with great joy. You love ___ and do not accuse ___. You revel over ___ in song.


(S) “The secret [of the sweet, satisfying companionship] of the Lord have they who fear (revere and worship) Him, and He will show them His covenant and reveal to them its [deep, inner] meaning.”

Psalm 25:14 AMP

(P) May ___ have the secret of the sweet, satisfying companionship of the Lord as ___ fears, reveres, and worships You. Show ___ Your covenant and reveal its meaning to ___.


(S) “The Lord is my Shepherd [to feed, guide, and shield me], I shall not lack. He makes me lie down in [fresh, tender] green pastures; He leads me beside the still and restful waters. He refreshes and restores my life (myself); He leads me in the paths of righteousness [uprightness and right standing with Him—not for my earning it, but] for His name’s sake.”

(P) Lord be ___’s shepherd to guide and protect to where ___ has no need of anything. Lead ___ in Your ways to where ___ finds rest. May You minister to ___’s soul and spirit, refreshing ___ in all areas.

Isaiah 49:16 AMP

(P) Thank you Lord for imprinting ___ on the palm of Your hands and continually having ___ before You.


(S) “[God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!]”

Hebrews 13:5 AMP

(P) God, You tell ___ that You will in no way fail, give up or leave ___ without support. Thank You for keeping Your word to never let ___ down.


(S) “[The Lord God] will feed His flock like a shepherd: He will gather the lambs in His arm, He will carry them in His bosom and will gently lead those that have their young.”

Isaiah 40:11 AMP

(P) You Father feed ___ like a shepherd. Keep ___ in Your arms and carry ___ close to You as You gently lead ___.


(S) “Don’t panic. I’m with you. There’s no need to fear for I’m your God.I’ll give you strength. I’ll help you. I’ll hold you steady, keep a firm grip on you.”

Isaiah 41:10 MSG

(P) ___ doesn’t panic. You are with ___. Help ___ understand there’s no need to fear because you are present. You strengthen and help ___. You hold ___ steady, keeping a firm grip on ___.


(S) “[The Lord, your God, says,] You are precious in my eyes, and honored, and I love you.”

Isaiah 43:4 NRSV

(S) “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. [I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls.] Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle (meek) and humble (lowly) in heart, and you will find rest (relief and ease and refreshment and recreation and blessed quiet) for your souls. Matthew 11:28–30 AMP

(P) Help ___ come to You Jesus when stressed, worn out and overwhelmed. May ___ receive real rest and feel refreshed in ___’s soul. May ___ walk with You God so You can show ___ how to live right. You God are gentle, meek, and humble. May ___ find relief and be blessed with quietness. God’s burden places on ___ is wholesome, useful, good, comfortable, gracious, and pleasant—not harsh, hard, sharp or pressing. May ___ stay close to You to learn how to live with less burdens and stress.
