Have you grown up around the church and yet struggled to have a personalized relationship with Jesus? Angie Hawkins shares her story and lessons learned when she surrendered to God and allowed Him to have access to her heart. She is passionate to share the love of Jesus she personally experienced and encourage you to call out to God and watch what He does.
Throughout life, we eventually realize that pain is inevitable, but there's a way to stop the pain from taking over your life. There's a presence of God who can help.
"I left religion and found Jesus."
Struggling as a preacher's kids that traveled a lot and being away from friends and then parents divorced that caused hardships. She blamed God until she experienced a panic attack and reached out to Jesus. God presence came and helped her. God's words to Angie - "If you'll open up your heart to me, I promise you I'll heal it. I didn't cause the divorce, but I'll heal your heart if you let me."
‘Call to Me and I will answer you, and tell you [and even show you] great and mighty things, [things which have been confined and hidden], which you do not know and understand and cannot distinguish.’
Jeremiah 33:3 AMP
"I thought that I had to be perfect and do everything right. If I didn't, I thought God was disappointed. God undid that moment when she encountered God."
She had a performance-based relationship vs. the grace of God viewpoint. God showed mercy and grace over her life. "The enemy tries to divide us from God." She learned she didn't have to earn her way to a relationship with God.
"The Holy Spirit is a gentleman and doesn't force His way in to our lives. He gently guides us to safe places if we let Him. God is relentless to keep reaching out to Him if we just open up to Him. God doesn't overwrite our will. He waits for us to yield to Him."
"I learn that when I talk, He answers back. It's important to spend time with Him. He became my Lord and best friend."
You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
Psalm 16:11 ESV
Hearing God's voice looks like:
Turn on worship music and begin to sing and meditate on God. He is present there. Create an atmosphere where you invite Him in to that space.
Recognize what God is saying by asking the Lord about each topic: "I present this before you. What do you say about this?" I stopped asking questions that demanded a 'yes' or 'no' answer so that I wasn't forcing a 'yes' or 'no', but He freely shares His answer. I then ask, "what do you mean about that?" Get clarity on the answer.
If something is not quite right, go to God with it. Take time for clarity.
If I don't obey God, how many are affected by my decision? We can negatively affect others if I'm disobedient.
Get in a place where you're open, honest and tell God where you're at. Let God prove to you who He is.
Be open with the Lord to invite Him to the broken places.
Ask for Him to heal your heart. He'll restore you.
God is relentless in pursuit of you!
