Times of Refreshing

Struggling with weariness or getting up and out of tough times? Rochelle offers answers to move in to the place God designed for us to be refreshed!

Show Notes

Rochelle Benton shares a message on the importance of seeking God's presence for true, permanent restoration rather than seeking temporary fixes for life's problems.

Seeking Permanent Change

The story of the lame man at the Gate Beautiful from Acts 3 to illustrate how we often settle for "alms" (temporary fixes) when God wants to give us "legs" (permanent healing).

  • A Temporary Fix vs. a Permanent Problem: The man asked for money, but Peter offered him something greater in the name of Jesus [03:36].

  • Immediate Spiritual Manifestation: Just as the man’s healing was immediate, Rochelle reminds viewers that God often answers prayers immediately in the spiritual realm, even if the physical manifestation takes time [05:38].

  • Rising "Above Sea Level": Drawing from her trip to Colorado, she encourages believers to look at life from a heavenly perspective ("heaven down" rather than "earth up") because we are seated with Christ in heavenly places [08:06].

The Nature of "Refreshing"

Refreshing: as having the power to restore freshness, vitality, and clarity [10:12].

  • The Source: Refreshing comes specifically from the presence of the Lord [15:07].

  • Consistency: The goal is not just an "evening of refreshing" but a "lifestyle of refreshing" [15:28].

  • Comparison: Unlike energy drinks that lead to a crash, the refreshing of the Lord provides lasting strength that makes you want to "leap and praise" [16:30].

The "REFRESHING" Acronym

To maintain a refreshed state regardless of circumstances, Rochelle provides a practical guide [21:46]:

  • R – Rejoice: Always in the Lord.

  • E – Enter: His gates with thanksgiving.

  • F – Face: Turn your face toward Jesus and seek Him.

  • R – Rehearse: Remember the many blessings and times God has already delivered you.

  • E – Exalt: Make God bigger than your problems.

  • S – Sing: Offer a new song to Him in your secret place.

  • H – Honor: Reverence the Lord.

  • I – Incline: Listen for His voice; "My sheep know my voice."

  • N – Notice: Pay attention to His activity, even in hard times.

  • G – Gratitude: Give thanks in everything.

Closing Challenge

Rochelle challenges us to make a reciprocal promise to God based on Hebrews 13:5 [19:58]. Just as God promises never to leave or forsake us, we should vow not to relax our hold on Him, keeping our minds "set on things above" [23:42].
