God's Pruning Brings Growth

Notes

Explore why God allows seasons of pruning in our lives. Drawing from a practical moment of yard work—pruning holly bushes—she connects the physical process of trimming away dead or hindering growth to the spiritual truth of Jesus’ teaching in John 15: "I am the vine; you are the branches."

Highlights

  • Pruning is Growth, Not Punishment: Similar to nature, trimming away dead branches is necessary in order to clear room for healthier branches to have access to the light and flourish.

  • Connection Over Performance: We flourish spiritually when we abide in the vine, Jesus Christ, rather than trying to sustain growth through our own efforts.

  • Addressing Hidden Spaces: Just as damaged branches can lie hidden beneath green leaves, spiritual neglect, not reading God's word enough, can affect us poorly. We can support and help among a fellow community to believe in staying accountable and encouraged in spiritual growth.
